My (Second) First Post

Hello, all! As I sat down to write my introductory post, I remembered that I had completed the same assignment for Ms. Brooks as an incoming freshman. I took the liberty of finding my first ever blog post for anybody that is bored enough to read it:

Three years ago, I wrote my “introducing me” post like a low-quality dating profile. Rather than go through the motions all over again, I first want to list some of my passions to give every reader a better sense of who I am.

First and foremost, I am passionate about being a Christian. My faith is vital to the way I live. I navigate through life using my relationship with God as a compass. I could write forever about the way having a personal relationship with Jesus has shaped my life, but I will leave it at that for now. (I would love to expound in person, though!)

Next, I am passionate about serving others. I want to be able to use my skills to help others for the rest of my life. I have no clue what I will end up doing, but I would love to be a math teacher. Wherever I end up in life, I want to be lifting up the people around me.

Finally, I am passionate about consistently trying my hardest. As much as I would love to be perfect at everything, I have learned that is not achievable. Instead, I have settled for always putting in 100% (no matter how cheesy it sounds)!

Now, back to the very basic get-to-know me kind of writing. I was born and raised in Colorado, even though I have moved five times. I live with my mom, my stepdad, my two younger sisters, my younger brother, and my Labradoodle. I enjoy hiking, climbing, traveling, and being around friends. I also discovered this summer that I enjoy wakeboarding.

My favorite book right now is either Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers or An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. These books are quite contrasting in terms of overall themes, but they both fall under the romance category. I really enjoy the former of the two because it closely follows the Biblical love story of Gomer and Hosea, but written as a cheesy romance novel. It is a sweet sob story of redemption and forgiveness. On the other hand, An Abundance of Katherines follows the story of a grown child prodigy attempting to figure his life out. He uses math to cope with a breakup, and eventually, he sets his mind on creating an algorithm to predict future relationships (you can find a link to the graph below). The novel combines math and romance surprisingly well.

If you would have asked me three years ago if I thought I was an extrovert, I would have laughed in your face. I haven’t been shy since elementary school, but I wasn’t very comfortable with branching out. If you read my freshman year blog, you would know that going to a new school was a huge step for me. Not only did I move schools that year, but my family also left the church we had been at for five years. I learned very quickly that being too embarrassed to reach out was not going to work in my favor. I decided to leave my shame at the door and be myself. I discovered I would find my people by being the person I want to be around. I am going to work hard to pursue this mindset going into my senior year and even college. Sorry for the stereotypical sappy conclusion to my first post, but I cannot wait to get the year started!! 🙂

Bahaha! I love the “low quality dating profile.” It is crazy how much more confident you are now compared to your first post! I loved your last Mulan pun and I APsolutely love this one! I can always count on you for your clever ingenuity. I’m so glad that you have recognized the futility of perfectionism to have a healthy attitude towards your work. I’m so excited that we are reunited at last!

Seeing you reflect on your freshman blog posts brought me back to my own freshman blog (with its very cringy posts), and that’s not something I really want to revisit. I agree that it’s great to try to be more open with those around us (I need to also work on that), as I think it can spark some great conversations. I think I’ll check out “An Abundance of Katherines”, just for the math.
